P/C/M: London, Grounded Theory: Berlin & The Sound Of Berghain: Copenhagen

After our mammoth roundup post last week, we're keeping it shorter this week, but the three parties we have to tell you about, make it just as strong.

London

When London party throwers, Plex, Colony and Machine put on events on their own, they always turn out pretty special, but when they combine at Corsica Studios, it ends up being one of the best events on the clubbing calendar.

The first P/C/M, which took place in October last year, brought together the likes of Surgeon, Perc, Andy Stott, Adam X, Ancient Methods, TVO, Peverelist and plenty more.

As with last year there's a few birthdays to be celebrated. Plex are turning six and Colony are reaching four. Plex take care of room one. Ancient Methods return, Regis puts in a live set, and the two combine for the UK debut performance of Ugandan Methods. Joining them is Surface Records' 65D Mavericks, Ø [Phase], Simon Heartfield with a live A/V show and the Plex residents.

Colony host live sets from Livity Sound, Senking and DJ sets from Millie, Tengui and MB & CB. Machine feature Untold, A Made Up Sound, Ben Sims and Paul Mac as Fokus Group and Kirk Degiorgio.

There's a few tickets left on Resident Advisor, but don't hang about because they won't be available for long.

Berlin

Our favourite Berlin promoters, Grounded Theory, move to a new venue, Stattbad, for their 18th party and they've put together an epic UK trio in the shape of Surgeon, Tommy Four Seven and Sigha. The Berlin contingent is fulfilled by Sven VT and GT boss, Henning Baer.

Copenhagen

No clubbing roundup would be complete without a stop of at Copenhagen's Culture Box. On Saturday they continue their monthly homage to the sounds of Berghain and Panoramabar and this week it's the turn of Ben Klock to take control of the Black Box for an all night session.

Grounded Theory 17 @ Arena Club, Berlin (14th Sep 12)

After their summer break, Berlin based promotion, Grounded Theory are back at the Arena Club for GT17. As is always the case with these parties, the line up is wall to wall quality. Berghain resident, Ben Klock returns for his 3rd appearance and takes centre stage. Vault Series artist Mørbeck will be providing a live set. US Based, Developer, who's releases on his own Modularz label and Semantica have been some of our favourites of the past 12 month will be performing a DJ set, as will Token Records' Kr!z.

Doors open at midnight, there's no presale tickets, so get there early to avoid disappointment. Full event info can be found on the Facebook Event Page. Grounded Theory 15 @ Arena (25th May 12)

Grounded Theory approach their 15th party and by now the formula should be pretty familiar. Take one of the best techno promotions in the world, in the best city for techno in the world and fill the line up with the best techno artists in the world. Then all you need to do is turn up at Berlin's Arena Club and have one of the best nights of your life!


Marcel Dettmann returns for his second appearance and is joined by a live set from a Danish Duo who are the latest signings to Adam X's Sonic Groove label, Northern Structures. Grounded Theory resident Milton Bradley and Stroboscopic Artefacts label owner, Lucy complete this incredible line up.

Grounded Theory 14 @ Arena (17th Feb 12)

It's time for the first Grounded Theory party of the year, to be held this Friday at the usual spot of Arena Club. The line up is the usual who's who of incredible techno artists.

The Electric Deluxe boss, Speedy J headlines the event with a bit of help from a live set from Traversable Wormhole and DJ sets from Obtane and Milton Bradley with Henning Baer as their K209.

Weekend Picks: Berlin - Dystopian and Grounded Theory pres. Other Heights x Field Records Showcase

It's just another weekend in the world's techno capital, Berlin, but there's two parties that deserve a mention.

First up, on Firday, our friends at Grounded Theory are hosting an Other Heights / Field Records showcase headlined with a live set from Dutch artist Conforce. Having recent releases on Clone, Coincidence and Echocord Colour and with his album coming real soon on Delsin Records, times are good for Conforce.

Joining him will be Bristol based Kowton, Oracy (aka Don Williams) and Jakob Altmann. The event will be held at Arena Club. All the details can be found on the Resident Advisor Event Page

Now if you're not done in by Friday night and fancy heading back out on Saturday then Horst Krzbrg should be your destination, and more importantly, the next party from Dystopian.

The quality line ups continue with one of London's most exciting young exports, Sigha, a Berlin debut live performance from Abdulla Rashim and support from Dystopian Resident Alex.Do and Guests.

Grounded Theory 12 @ Arena Club (28th Oct 11)

The good times, and the great line ups, keep coming for Grounded Theor y. The previous 11 parties have been a veritable who's who of the very best acts in techno. GT11 was held at Horst Krzbrg but for GT12 they're back in more familiar surroundings at Arena Club.

The headliner will require no introductions. Ostgut artist, Berghain resident and head of the Klockworks label, Ben Klock has had quite a year. His name and reputation, as both an artist and a DJ, have been ever expanding worldwide earning him performances at the worlds best clubs and festivals. He's almost becoming a regular fixture in London these days. He's graced our soundsystems a total of four times this year and has been nothing short of monumental every single time.

Joining him will be Ann Amiee and Delsin Records artist, Delta Funktionen. You'll recognise this name too, as well you should. Those who made it to Plex in July or fabric in August will fully understand why we've been keeping such a close eye on the Dutch producer / DJ.

Completing the line up will be a live set from Subjected & Morbeck, under their Vault Series guise and the man behind Grounded Theory, Henning Baer. Fresh from his debut release, on the label he runs with Milton Bradley, K209, we're sure he'll have something up his sleeve to get your toes tapping and your heads bobbing in the very best way imaginable.

The party kicks off at midnight and goes on till.... There's no tickets just so just rock up and pay the, more than, reasonably priced 10 euros on the door. All the other information can be found on the Resident Advisor Event Page.

Weekend Picks: Berlin - Grounded Theory 11, Time To Express, Klubnacht @ Berghain

If you happen to be in Berlin this weekend, you're really in for a treat. On any normal given weekend, chances are you'll be spoilt for choice, but this weekend things really are getting ridiculous. Tonight there's two options which either way will both be worth a look. Firstly it's the next edition from our friends at Grounded Theory who will be taking over Horst Krzbrg with Tadeo, a live set from the Forward Strategy Group, Jonas Kopp and GT resident Milton Bradley. For our final recommendation, we stay at the Berlin techno mecca that is Berghain for the clubs in house Saturday night Klubnacht. The line ups at Klubnacht are always a little bit special but tomorrow night (and Sunday and maybe Monday?) is pretty much phenomenal. Making his debut at the Berlin techno Mecca is one of London's brightest stars, Sigha. As if playing 7 hours wasn't enough for Ben Klock, he'll carry on with a b2b with DVS1, who last at Berghain played for a massive 11 hours, so god knows what time that'll finish. TR-101 is a live project from DJ Pete and Sleeparchive.

With Innervisions bringing the house up in Panoramabar and a Sonntags session of pure class with Ostgut artist nd_baumecker and the man from Robert Johnson Prins Thomas and finishing off with a b2b2b Innervisions style, its set to be an incredible weekend in the former power station. Grounded Theory 10 @ Arena Club, Berlin (24th Jun 10)

Tonight sees the tenth edition of one of Berlin's best underground parties, Grounded Theory. As ever the line up is packed with the cream of todays techno artists. Headlining is Berghain resident Marcel Fengler. With support from our last headliner, Redshape, CLR's brightest new star, Tommy Four Seven and the man behind the GT project, Henning Baer. Set in the perfect surroundings of Arena Club, this party is guaranteed to be something special.

Grounded Theory 09 @ Arena Club, Berlin (20th May 11)

Next Friday Berlin gets another installment of one of its best parties, Grounded Theory. Previous guests including Traversable Wormhole, Perc, Ben Klock, Sleeparchive, Mike Dehnert, Perc and Ancient Methods has cemented their place as an unmissable night for the Berlin techno faithful.

The smaller setting of Arena Club provides the perfect back drop for some of the biggest names in techno. For the 9th party the line up is possibly the biggest they've ever had.

Berghain resident, Marcel Dettmann, is no stranger to followers of the SDD blog, an artist from Jeff Mill's stable, Jeroen Search, and our next guest at Slash Dot Dash, Kenneth Christiansen, joins his production partner, Resoe, to perform their Pattern Repeat live show all alongside the man behind the parties, Henning Baer, for what will be a night of mind bending techno.

The man behind the string of undergound techno parties in Berlin, Grounded Theory, Henning Baer makes his first venture into production alongside his resident and past Slash Dot Dash guest, Milton Bradley.

Henning is a regular as a DJ around Berlin, playing at legendary venues like Tresor and Suicide Circus. Milton Bradley needs no introduction. His work on his Do Not Resist The Beat! label promoted us to fly him over to London. You would of seen we reviewed DNRTB!06 a while back.

Hardwax describes the release as 'harder stomping noisey techno cuts'. Sounds like a perfect, to the point review to us. Check out the samples below

Milton Bradley - A Sky Full Of Numbers [Do Not Resist The Beat! 06

Since playing for us back in November last year, Milton Bradley locked himself away and set to work on his first ever live project which debuted at Berghain last weekend, to outstaqnding effect. We've been waiting a good while for the next release from the label he set up with Zeal, Do Not Resist The Beat. And the time has finally arrived.

As is the way with the label, it's a 3 tracker packed full of exhilarating experimental techno. 'A Sky Full Of Numbers' drones and pulsates bass right through your mind, whilst shuffling patterns keep your head nodding. 'The Path To Mathematical Truth' is the raw techno number. Sirens swell to full intensity then fade into the background, readying themselves for another onslaught. 'Number Analysis' is 4/4 like 'The Path To Mathematical Truth', but is much more steady, relentless but deep all at the same time. It's one of those special tracks that sits late in the party when all you need is a raw techno grove to accompany you're heads down, no talking, dancing moments.

At the moment I've only found it at Hardwax, but I'm sure it'll be in all the best stores soon. Check out the samples below

I remember speaking to Samuli Kemppi in the hotel before the last party and we was chatting about Milton Bradley's music and he said to me "the great thing about his production, is that everything has it's place. Never to much or too little, it's perfect" and I whole heartedly agree with him. We expect very big things from Milton in 2011.

For those of you who are lucky enough to be in Berlin on the 18th February would be very wise to make your way down to Horst Krzbrg for Grounded Theory 07. Of course resident Milton Bradley will be there. He will be joined by the (as those who were there in March will fondly remember) excellent Traversable Wormhole performing live and some big favourites of ours, Terence Fixmer and Delta Funktionen. Grounded Theory pres Fachwerk Records Showcase @ Arena (5th Nov 10)

It seems that a vast amount of Londoners are making their way out to Berlin for the upcoming weekend. I can't blame them. We was out there two weekends ago and had one of the best times of our lives. There's some monster events going on this weekend. Perlon's launch of their 'Superlongivity 5 EP' @ Panoramabar, the Bermuda Festival is taking over half the clubs in the city, and for us the top pick of the whole weekend of Bermuda parties has to be Grounded Theory's 6th event at Arena Club.

The previous parties have included some great line ups, including the likes of Ben Klock, Adam X, Marcel Fengler, Function, Norman Nodge, Sleeparchive to name a few, and their resident Milton Bradley.

For this party they've teamed up with the excellent Berlin label, Fachwerk Records. They've handed over the rains to Mike Dehnert, Roman Lindau and Sascha Rydell and will be leaving them to get on with playing the style of music that's made the label so successful, great techno! Between the 3 of them they've racked up 16 releases on the label and individually they've featured on some of the most respected techno labels around, such as Clone, Echocord Colour, Deeply Rooted House and Ostgut Ton. The pedigree is there for all to see

Doors open at midnight on Friday and goes on till late. And as parties generally do in Berlin it's likely to go on very late!
