Slash Dot Dash Podcast 027: Pär Grindvik

Pär Grindvik, or his pseudonym The Hollow, has been a core person of the Swedish electronic scene since the nineties as a record-store owner (Illegal Stockholm), label manager and producer. He is a well established artist and has been touring for many years and releases on big name labels like Drumcode, Spectral Sound, Saved Records and his own label Stockholm Ltd, which he created and founded in 2002.

Stockholm Ltd began as an outlet for singles and Eps from Swedish electronic artists with a focus on releasing timeless electronic music. Nowadays it's much more, as each release tells it's own story. Pär also founded the sub label Islands & Islets in 2008. Every inch of Pär's work, including the labels, artwork, release info and music, is wrapped with heart and emotion, which keeps the sparkle and curiosity alive within the ever changing adaptations of the artists world.

Thus, Pär Grindvik is one of the most promising names around today and one of the most respected producers out there! With this in mind, Pär was an artist that we felt had to be part of the Slash Dot Dash Podcast family. He asked us the brief and we simply told him "do what you feel". And what resulted is a rare downtempo home listening mix from the Swede.

All the heart and emotion, that's the benchmark of everything he does, is present in this glorious 70 minute excursion into landscapes of sound, that touch you on the deepest of levels. So sit back and immerse yourself in this expansive mix that traverses from ambient textures to late night head nodders and bass heavy sonic attacks to raw hip hop beats in the most elegant of fashions.

You can subscribe to our podcast in iTunes or you can download or stream the mix from the Soundcloud Player below

More info on Pär can be found on his Facebook Fan Page. For the rest of our Podcasts please head over to the Podcast Page on our website. If you want to catch Pär live, and happen to be in Berlin, you can see him at the legendary Tresor next weekend (11th April) alongside Svreca and Developer in the legendary basement. Full details can be found on the Resident Advisor Event Page.

Weekend Clubbing Roundup: London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Chicago, Taipei

We're almost just about recovered from one of the most crazy techno weekends London has ever seen (god we love bank holidays) but the top techno talent just keeps coming. We've got a few events to tell you about for the upcoming weekend starting tonight in our home town

London

Scottish based Sleaze Records teams up with London promoters Tilanbiik bring you a label showcase at the Crucifix Lane Warehouse. The label's boss, Hans Bouffmyhre, is joined by the prestigious talents of CLR's Monoloc and Stockholm Ltd boss, Pär Grindvik.

Tickets are still available for tonight's event on Resident Advisor

Berlin

Again we're talking tonight, but this time we're switching to Suicide Circus, Berlin, for the Sonic Groove label night. The boss, Adam X, is accompanied by fellow SG artists Dino Sabatini and Diagenetic Origin.

As is the case with Berlin events, there's no pre sale tickets, doors open at midnight and it's first come first serve. Full event info can be found on Resident Advisor

Copenhagen

After further cementing his place as one of our absolute favourite DJs last weekend, Marcel Dettmann heads to Copenhagen for Culture Box's bi monthly collaboration with the Berlin techno mecca that is Berghain. The Ostgut Ton artist will be in control from 11pm right through till the end.

All you need to know can be found on the Facebook Event Page

Chicago

The Smart Bar plays host to a true techno giant as Oktave and Little White Earbuds present Chris Liebing. The CLR boss gets support from Perc Trax's Jeff Derringer and Chicago local Qbot.

There's no tickets for this one so arrive early to avoid missing out. Full info on the Facebook Event Page

Taipei

Smoke Machine put together some great parties, we just wish they were a little bit closer to home. Saturday night is no exception as they welcome Prologue Records artist and one half (with Donato Dozzy) of the outstanding Voices From The Lake, Neel.

Just like the Culture Box, Neel will be on from the start, right through till the lights get turned on. For all the info on the event and links for tickets head to the Facebook Event Page

Weekend clubbing roundup: London, Birmingham, Berlin, Copenhagen, Athens, LA, Buenos Aires

There's plenty of events going on around the techno world this weekend. Here's our pick of them

London

On Friday, Coma continue their London Techno Champions series at the Horse & Groom with a London Debut for Avian artist Ventress and support from Doubleffe and Setaoc Mass.

There's a £3 concessions guestlist running for the party. Send your names to comaevents@gmail.com before 5pm tomorrow afternoon to get on it.

Sunday techno returns to London as Void are throwing a free party residents special. A collection of upcoming London based producers and DJs will be displaying just how bright the future is for London techno.

It's free so if you're in the area (or even if you're not) get yourselves down to Cafe 1001

Birmingham

Birmingham has a rich history of techno and on Saturday the Gibb Street Warehouse intend to keep that going. Function, who is of course part of the legendary techno collective, Sandwell District (named after an area of Birmingham) takes top billing supported by Birmingham's own first lady of techno, Rebekah.

Tickets for the event can be purchased on the Ticket Sellers Website

Berlin

Swedish Tuna @ Tresor (Friday 20th Jul 12)

It's a Stockholm LTD showcase in Tresor on Friday night at Pär Grindvik and Staffan Linzatti showcase their considerable skills with Drumcode's Joel Mull completing the Swedish connection.

Full event details can be found on Resident Advisor

Copenhagen

Whenever we do these roundup posts, somewhere along the line there's always a mention for our friends at Culture Box and more often than not there's a party in there which includes Luke Slater, so when the two of them came together for one event, it's was always going to find it's place on the post.

Support comes from local boys and Sonic Groove act, Northern Structures, and Circuit Club's Morten Kamper with Finn Of Tomland in the Cocktail Box. Full event info on Facebook.

Athens

The Greek economy may be in a precarious position at present, but the techno scene is alive and well as Time To Express boss, Peter Van Hoesen, heads to the capital to join Slydex, HRISL and Poen at the Astron Bar.

Doors open at 8pm and stay open until 7am and best of all, it's free!

Los Angeles

Droid Behaviour head to LA to host a CLR Showcase which includes Chris Liebing, Drumcell, Truncate and Dean Paul.

Tickets are still available on Resident Advisor

Buenos Aires

The last stop on our roundup takes us to Buenos Aires and the home town of our last SDD Podcast contributor Pfirter. For Wormhole .02 @ Cocoliche, Juan Pablo is joined by another home town boy, Jonas Kopp.

Pär Grindvik - Wyatt ARP [Stockholm LTD 024]

Pär Grindvik drops his first release on Stockholm LTD for four years. These are his reasons for this hiatus and the thought process behind the new EP...

"It’s been four years since my last own EP on Stockholm LTD.
The main reason for this is that I have been surrounded by music that has inspired
me much more than my own.
This EP was written and produced with strict narrow frames and a huge amount
of frustration. I was tired of waiting for the inspiration to kick in, then suddenly it
appeared with a strength that I haven’t felt for long time. I’m now curious for more.
While sketching the title track, ’Wyatt Arp’, I couldn’t get Detroit legend, Terrence
Dixon, out of my mind. Terrence is a long time hero of mine, and an artist that always
stays on the true side of what we do while most of us occasionally leave our paths.
I had to ask him to do a rework."

Check out the samples on the Soundcloud player below

The EP will be in the shops towards the back end of August so make sure you get yourselves a copy. More information on Pär can be found on his Facebook Fan Page.

WetYourSelf @ fabric (29th May 11)

The WetYourself bank holiday specials have seen some great performances from some of the worlds best DJs and one thing you can rely on is there being a strong techno line up in Room 2. I'm sure those of you who were there, will have fond memories (or maybe no memories at all) from the amazing night when Dettmann and Klock hammered Room 2 last year!

So keeping that in mind, WYS, have pulled another stormer out the bag with performances from techno big wigs Peter Van Hoesen, Pär Grindvik and Dario Zenker supported by Bleep43's Toby Frith and another one of the infamous b2b sets from Slash Dot Dash residents Chris Stanford and XI.

Rooms 1 and 3 are looking equally as strong to make the last Bank Holiday before the end of August go with a huge bang! Tickets are on sale now through Resident Advisor and more info can be found on the fabric site
