The Jubilee Weekend Clubbing Roundup: London, Edinburgh, Dublin, Italy, Hannover

For those of us in London a four day weekend is something a bit special, a four day week at the start of summer is a whole different ball game. There's some big events coming up, not just in the capital but all around Europe.... and here's the best of them

London

We kick off with a new comer to the London techno scene, Dystopia. The project goes beyond the standard format for a club night and pulls together the artistic talents of DJs, musicians, designers, visuals artists and photographer to form an inclusive creative showcase.


They've picked two very creative acts to guest at the party with Time To Express boss, Peter Van Hoesen and Stroboscopic Artefacts duo Dadub (check out their recent Dystopia Podcast 002). fabric are pulling in the big guns for room 2 on Saturday as the Berghain resident and Klockworks Records head honcho, Ben Klock links up with the man from Minneapolis, Berghain regular and Klockworks artist, DVS1.

When Plex and Perc Trax combine at Corsica Studios the outcome is usually pretty special, but Sunday could be the most special to date. 9 hours of first rate techno featuring some of the best names in Underground music. A live set from Kangding Ray, DJ sets from Lone, Perc, Randomer, Truss, AnD, DJ Skirt and many more make this rammed full of quality from start to finish.

Edinburgh

From the English capital to the Scottish capital now and Edinburgh is in for a massive treat on Friday as Adam X presents Traversable Wormhole for Unseen at Studio 24. There's no tickets so just get there and pay on the door. Full event info on Facebook

Dublin

And now on to the ROI captial, Dublin, as Fachwerk Records owner, Mike Dehnert, takes to the decks at The Academy. Again there's no presale tickets but head over to Resident Advisor for all the event info.

Hannover

Grounded Theory 14 @ Arena (17th Feb 12)

It's time for the first Grounded Theory party of the year, to be held this Friday at the usual spot of Arena Club. The line up is the usual who's who of incredible techno artists.

The Electric Deluxe boss, Speedy J headlines the event with a bit of help from a live set from Traversable Wormhole and DJ sets from Obtane and Milton Bradley with Henning Baer as their K209.

Traversable Wormhole Vol 8

Last time we spoke to Traversable Wormhole aka Adam X it was not long after the completion of the monstrous CLR remix pack which ended up being a veritable who's who of techno artists. And as much as the project was a big success, Adam wanted TW to return to it's more mysterious roots. No promotion, no hype, just straight releases, that was if it was to ever return at all! But luckily enough for us, it has!

We first heard about it back in April when Giorgio Gigli listed it in his RA Chart but since then, as is the traditional TW way, mum has most certainly been the word! Now though, over a year since TW Vol 7, it's out, and it's time we started spreading that word!

Like the 7 releases proceeding it, Vol 8 consists of two tracks, 'Four Dimensional Mami Fold' and 'Negative Energy Density'. Both feature the dark, stripped back, industrial techno that made him our number 1 priority when arranging the Slash Dot Dash relaunch last summer. Check out the samples below

Traversable Wormhole - Live @ Movement Festival, Detroit (29th May 11)

We're gutted that we missed out on Movement Festival this year. We've still not been and we've already put plans of Movement 2012, but we've hard a couple of sets and watched a few vids to console ourselves. It looked amazing.

However there was one video which annoyed us more than any of them. Our previous SDD guest, Traversable Wormhole, performed live on the Torino Stage and someone managed to catch a 23 minute video from the performance so we absolutely had to share it.

It's not even close to as good as being there but it's still an amazing video from an amazing artist. We're praying for some new Traversable Wormhole material, but as was the case with the project before the CLR remixes, you won't know about it until you see a copy in your local record shop. So keep your eyes peeled.

Mix Of The Day: Traversable Wormhole - Resident Advisor Podcast 245

As you probably know, we're big fans of Traversable Wormhole here at Slash Dot Dash. So much so we invited Adam X over to make his UK debut under his TW guise last year. We've followed him through the last 6 months with release after release on his CLR remix project and now we've made it into 2011, there's no let up.

Resident Advisor have followed up their recent Jonas Kopp podcast with some more outstanding techno. I'm not going to waffle or overload you with hype. That's not what TW is about. Speaking to Adam recently, he told me he's planning to bring the mystery back into the project. No faff, no promo, no long list of DJ feedback. You'll know when the next TW release is out, when you see it in your local record shop, that's if there ever is another TW release....? We'll know, if it happens!

Traversable Wormhole - Vol 1-5 (Mix CD) [CLR]

It's been a busy day in Slash Dot Dash related news. After the excellent Milton Bradley CLR Podcast, one of our guests from Julys party, Traversable Wormhole, is releasing a special 68 minute mix. Well I say mix, but it goes a lot deeper than that.

Volumes 1-5 were released as anonymously stamped white label vinyls over the course of 2009. These caught the eye of some of the top names in techno, including CLR boss Chris Liebing. After a chance meeting between the two of them at Berghain, Chris signed Traversable Wormhole (or Adam X as he's more widely known) to his label and asked him to embark on a serious project.

Adam could of easily just pulled out the records and mixed them like a normal dj set.... but that would be far too easy. Instead he revisited all the original productions and spent months re-editing all the intros and outros to create a seemless blend of gloriously crafted techno.

The cd is out today from all the usual haunts. I've seen it in decks.de this morning.

And as if that wasn't enough keep your eyes out for his CLR Podcast, out next Monday, which is a recording of his live set from Saturdays CLR Label Night @ the legendary Berlin techno spot, Berghain. Adam's live set at Slash Dot Dash was mindblowing so we're expecting the podcast to be just as good!

There's been plenty of anticipation building up around the Traversable Wormhole remixes. Just two weeks ago we told you about Vol 1 with Marcel Dettmann and Peter Van Hoesen remixes now it's time for Vol 2 and this time Mr CLR himself, Chris Liebing has got involed! And this addition wouldn't be complete without a Sleeparchive remix too boot.

The Chris Liebing remix features the high energy sound we've come to expect from the main at the head of techno's label of the moment while the Sleeparchive remix is much grimier with its squelchy droning bassline. Volume 2 will be released at some point in the not too distant future so keep your eyes peeled

Traversable Wormhole - The Remixes Vol 1 (Marcel Dettmann & Peter Van Hoesen) [CLR]

In 2009 Traversable Wormhole released a series of 5 anonymously produced ink stamped vinyls which found their way on to the underground techno scene, into stores like Hardwax and Decks.de and into the boxes of techno's big names.

We was so impressed with them at Slash Dot Dash we tracked him down and flew him over to perform his live show at our relaunch. A UK first no less. He also impressed Chris Liebing who signed him to his CLR imprint and has been lining up a string of techno's biggest names to remix the 5 releases. The first EP to reach the light of day contains possibly the biggest name in techno in the world right now, Marcel Dettmann and Time To Express head man, Peter Van Hoesen.

Dettmann's 'Closed Timeline Curve' remix is built for Berghain. Driving rhythms over the top over a thumping kick. Has the feel of his his work with Shed under the Deuce alias. Van Hoesen's 'When 2D Meets 3D' is a much more minimalistic creation that drifts along hypnotising as you go. Check them out for yourself

Now normally 2 heavyweights like this would be enough for a remix project. But CLR are releasing a different EP every month after this first one with remixes from Surgeon, Sleeparchive, Function, Speedy J, Terrence Fixmer and Liebing himself. This is just the start of a very exciting run up to xmas!

After months of hard work and planning the time had finally arrived, and what a time is was. The Hub club will filled with a great friendly crowd just chomping at the bit to consume what was about to come.

XI & Chris Stanford kicked off proceedings deep and slowly built things up as more and more people arrived. Eventually the scene was set and it was the turn of the debut UK appearance of Adam X's new project, Traversable Wormhole. There had been plenty of underground buzz built up around the, until now, secret world of Traversable Wormhole. A series of 7 anonymously stamped white label releases fueled the live set with his signature stripped down industrial techno beats.

Then came the turn of the main event, as Sandwell District took the stage to step the party into over drive. Function & Regis's DJ / Live hybrid set was something more impressive than I thought it would be. The atmosphere became even more electric and the crowd truly got lost in the pounding rhythms filling the air.

Here, at Slash Dot Dash, we'd like to thank everyone that came down to The Hub Club on Saturday night and made us feel proud to be techno fans in London. The people came out in force. One of the best crowds I've seen in London for a long time.

As amazing as Saturday nights party was, we're not content to finish there, oh no no no. We're working away behind the scenes putting together a line up to match the brilliance of the relaunch. Sandwell District is, without doubt, THE underground Techno label of the moment. With support from all quarters (they count Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Len Faki and the Berghain crew, Laurent Garnier, Miss Kitten, Jeff Mills, Sleeparchive, Speedy J, Troy Pierce, among their many devotees) they have not just blurred the boundaries of techno, but have dissolved them and re-built it in their own unique image...

Function and Regis need little introduction, as stalwarts of the hugely influential Downwards Label they have been breaking down and re-arranging the D.N.A of conventional dance music for over a decade. Sandwell District however is very much it's own animal and although it shares many of it's ideals and energy with the iconic Downwards, it is very much a label of the here and now. With Function already scoring 2 massive hits this year, with his "ISOLATION AND ANTICIPATION EP'S " and Regis causing major waves on the underground as his alter ego KALON, it seems as if in the past 12 months, Sandwell District can do no wrong. Going from strength to strength with every release, so far this year both Function's mighty 'Isolation' and the Kalon and Function Mixes of Silent Servant's 'Violencia' earned DJ Mag Techno Record of the Month, Function's 'Anticipation' held the #1 Bestselling Techno Record position for 6 weeks on Juno, in June the label earned Resident Advisor's prestigous, Label of the Month, and currently the Kalon and Function mixes of Silent Servant are getting major airplay and DJ Support. And now with mixes from Marcel Dettmann and Troy Pierce in the pipeline for the next sandwell 12"s, as well as Function remixing Miss Kitten, Heartthrob (Minus) and the Richie Hawtin, Joey Beltram and Mundo Muzique +8 classic, Final Exposure 'Vortex', 2009 is already promising to be another major year for SANDWELL DISTRICT.

In 2009 a series of five anonymously produced ink stamped vinyl recorded releases appeared in the global techno scene under the mysterious guise "Traversable Wormhole. The series released exclusively on vinyl. The sound of "Traversable Wormhole is a unique signature of sci-fi laden techno music with gaps of time,space & bass in between sound & rhythm.

Within a month's time of it's conception Volume 2 of the series appeared and a huge buzz was soon amassed on the project. Accusations on who was the artist behind the project ran wild. People all over the techno scene had made theories to who was behind it. The project quickly received huge support from many of the world's most renowned techno shops such as Rub A Dub , Hardwax, Juno & Decks.

Word traveled fast through the wormhole and it was soon reported that globally respected dj’s such as Chris Liebing, Ben Klock, Marcel Dettmann, Mathew Herbert, Ryan Elliot, Andrew Galluzi, Surgeon, Function, Frankie Bones, Surgeon, DJ Deep & Radioslave were all supporting the sound of TW. With the series fast approaching into further galaxies with the appearance of Vol 3. Techno cult blogsite MNMLSSG (http://mnmlssg.blogspot.com/) tracked down TW via Twitter. A sonar ping was sent back to the popular blog and soon a "Traversable Wormhole" mix appeared anonymously on the site, receiving rave reviews. Their were also reports through the anonymous "Traversable Wormhole" Myspace profile that dj's from the dubstep scene were supporting the songs that had more of a broken beat structure in the series. As the series transgressed to Vol 5 by the year end of 2009 the mystique of anonymity continued to grow.

To usher in the very start of 2010 "Traversable Wormhole" would release the sixth volume of the series. At the same time 20 year veteran techno artist/dj Adam X originally from NYC but now residing in Berlin would be invited to partake in a feature called "Playing Favorites" on "Resident Advisor" the worlds biggest electronic music website. As Adam's feature read towards the end he would subtly take claim as the producer behind "Traversable Wormhole".

While traversing the wormhole, Adam has crossed paths with Chris Liebing and his CLR imprint. Forthcoming in Summer 2010 CLR will release "Traversable Wormhole" Vol 1-5 in digital format for the first time ever with all five volumes being digitally remastered in the highest of quality. Also planned for release at the same time period is a massive remix project that maybe the biggest ever in techno. "Traversable Wormhole" has found itself remixed from some of the best in the scene. Surgeon, Marcel Dettmann, Sleeparchive, Function, Chris Liebing , James Ruskin, Peter Van Hoesen, Terence Fixmer, Kevin Gorman, Tommy 247 & Brian Sanhaji have all taken a turn in remixing TW. The remix project will see release on both vinyl and digital format. Then come September 2010 CLR releases on CD "Adam X presents Traversable Wormhole Vol 1-5" a full length mix of all 10 songs, mixed by the artist himself.

In support of the CLR releases "Traversable Wormhole" will traverse the world with a live show tour starting in July 2010.

The Residents

Kicking off the night will be Chris Stanford and XI. Both no strangers to the London Techno scene. Part of the legendary Lost Souls parties at Public Life they've played host to a number of the world's very best underground DJs and will be bringing this party to the boil, setting it up nicely for our guests.
