Slash Dot Dash Podcast 033: Van Bonn
Nothing but his real name. The German artist and producer Van Bonn is a true traveller in music and life. After formulating a language of drones, hip-hop, hardcore-metal, instrumental rock and techno, Van Bonn presents his transcriptions of his journey in 2014 and onwards.
Reimut Van Bonn played drums in a hardcore-metal band besides producing hip-hop before he joined the well known German instrumental rock band 'Long Distance Calling' which went Top 40 in the German charts. Van Bonn contributed his deepness to the band's sound by using, manipulating and dubbing various electronic instruments and audio sources. Moreover Van Bonn recorded loads of 'mostly ambient drone stuff', as he says, for his alter ego Kadrage, to be kept safe under his bed. While living in Berlin, Van Bonn started to create his very own cosmos of sounds to transfer all this into techno.
Van Bonn's participation in the dub techno label, Telrae, which he did not only record for and where he is recognised as a soulmate of a collective of 5 people, already established as a tastemaker in this scene. Still a musician on the rise, he gave his debut on his own label Van Bonn Records with the vinyl EP 'Gradient' in April 2013 which was perceived very well with techno DJs, tastemakers and people who just loved music. But it was his EP about skydiver 'Baumgartner', released in October 2013, that was hailed as a masterpiece and which accounted for a small break through in his career.
Now located in Copenhagen, Van Bonn takes a new perspective on techno to travel and ride the waves of sound without ignorance and abuse, he is a human hellfire after all.
It was through his released on Telrae that was first discovered Van Bonn and we've been fans ever since. Traversing the blurred lines of dub and techno, his music very much fits our tastes, and whether it's through his productions or DJ sets, Van Bonn's creative skills are on show for all to admire. The mix is no exception as it draws you in with it's heavy bass, encapsulating rhythms and immersive atmospheres and holds you there until releasing you in the most delicate of fashions.

Slash Dot Dash Podcast 032: TM404
TM404 is the brain child of Swedish producer, and analog legend, Andreas Tilliander. The project, released on Kontra Musik, was a homage to his love of vintage Roland hardware. Using nothing else but two 202s, four 303s, two 606s, a 707 and an 808 he expertly crafted an improvised work of experimental genius. Andreas utilised Roland's x0x series in a fashion unlike anyone else to create of vision of dub techno that's enthralling, relaxing and uplifting all at the same time.
TM404 is just one of a long line of projects under Tilliander's belt. During the last 15 years he's released music ranging from classic dub techno to experimental soundscapes and dubstep to peak time dance floor techno. All this can be found under his own name, as well as the aliases Mokira, Lowfour, Rechord, Komp, Kondens (with Stefan Thor), part of the bands Bulgur Brothers and Skitus and finally his newest project, forth coming on Semantica, Svaag, on esteemed labels such as Raster Noton, Prologue, Echocord, Skudge, Kontra Musik and many more.
The TM404 live show has entertained and impressed audiences worldwide at clubs and festivals like Berghain, Mutek, Culture Box and CTM Festival, and has been a regular at Richie Hawtin's Enter parties at Ibizan super club Space. With new music coming in the next few months, as Svaag on Semantica, as Mokira on SELF and new TM404 material, firstly on Skudge and a TM404 remix pack from Svreca on Kontra Musik, winter is shaping up to be a very exciting time for the Swede, as it is for his fans.
We asked him to join our podcast family and he duly obliged with a TM404 DJ mix that encapsulates all this is Andreas Tilliander. Effortlessly gliding from experimental to acid, to elegant dub techno before venturing into the world of hypnotic techno, touching the fringes of DnB then back to stripped out techno, culminating in a swan song of early 80s dub.

Slash Dot Dash Podcast 022: Mikkel Metal
Mikkel Metal, aka Mikkel Meldgaard, born 1973, lives and works in Copenhagen. Completing a degree in Philosophy at the University of Coepnhagen in 2001, he now works as a teacher at KEA on an e-concept development program, besides making music.
His musical career started in the early nineties as a guitarist. Equally interested in the introspective sound of the British shoe gazer scene and the looser low-fi aesthetic of American slacker bands, he playing in various bands and developed as a guitarist.
By the mid-nineties he had grown an interest in electronic music, and bought a sampler. At first the focus laid on break beat music and melodic stuff. Later the direction changed towards a sound inspired by dub, techno and click sensibilities. While the indierock is still apparent, this is the sound that characterised Mikkel's music today.
Things kicked off in 2000, with the release of a 7-inch on the label Hal9000, that topped the de:bug's monthly chart (no. 42). Afterwards came an appearance on the net label Datamusik, and a series of 12 inches on the Danish label Echocord.
Mikkel developed and refined his sound, and also started issuing work to German label Kompakt. So far this has thrown off three 12 inches. These works still continuing click aesthetics and dub influence, but take a slightly different path, and go from shuffle techno to slow melodic 4/4 based tracks. Around 2010 his sound has showed an inspiration from more Detroit based sounds, as heard on his 'Pamon 403' EP on Echocord.
For our 22nd podcast Mikkel created a blissful dub infused soundscape, intertwining subtle grooves with elegant rhythms to transport you into the world of dub techno as seen through the eyes of the Danish producer.
You can subscribe to our podcast series in iTunes or you can download or stream the mix from the soundcloud player below.

Stefan Gubatz - Distanz Varianz (Telrae 015 V)
On of our favourite labels, Telrae, is on too their 15th 10" vinyl release and it's a 4th on the label from Stefan Gubartz. Fresh from the release of his debut album 'Distanz' (available direct from the Telrae webshop) on the imprint late last year Stefan uses 015 as an opportunity to revisit and rework two tracks from the album.
'Byte and Scratch' entertains and enthralls with wave after wave reverb'd chords and a spattering of high hats. On the B Side we find 'Offshore' and a slightly more muted affair. Again blissful chords provide an altogether calming yet uplifting influence. It's one of those records you want to listen to in a dark room, all alone with your thoughts.
Check out the samples from the soundcloud player below
As with all Telrae releases it's available exclusively from Decks.de and should be in the store soon. More info on Stefan Gubatz can be found on his Facebook Fan Page and the same goes for Telrae or alternatively you can head over to their website for info on all their previous releases.

Cio D'Or - Ur / Uhr [Telrae 011]
The 11th release from Köln based record label, Telrae, is something to get us very excited as they invited Cio D'Or to provide two expertly crafted pieces to make up her first release for the label.
Full of emotion and the most acute spacial awareness, 'Ur' and 'Uhr' have all the hallmarks of Cio's work. Ghostly echo's and subtle drones lead you along a spooky path of musical enlightenment. Regular Telrae contributor, Salz, provides a remix of 'Ur' and toughens up the beats to make it a bit more dancefloor friendly. Check out the videos of the three tracks below
The EP will be available on vinyl at the end of the month, exclusively at Decks.de, which features the two original pieces. You can also get it on digital download from iTunes where you'll be able to get hold of the Salz remix too.

Cassegrain - Coptic EP [Prologue 025]
Cassegrain kick off 2012 with their second release on SDD favourite, Prologue Records. Their first release on the label 'Dropa EP' [PRG021], for us was one of the best releases of the year and got plays in every corner of the techno world.Prologue 025 reaches the same heights as the pair demonstrate the skills that have made them a hot new property on the techno scene. Im Dunkeln @ Horst Krzbrg (14th Jan 12)
'Im Dunkeln' basically means 'In The Dark' and we couldn't think of a better place to be when these four DJs are taking to the turntables. A mighty fine selection from the most forward thinking techno producers in the world.Andy Stott has been wowing listeners relentlessly with a string of releases on the Manchester based label Modern Love. This has lead to a number of bookings at some of the best venues around Europe. Those who made it to the Plex / Colony / Machine party at Corsica Studios will know how much damage he did in Room 2.
Peter Van Hoesen is a name that will be familiar to followers of our blog. As a DJ, Producer and boss of the Time To Express label, he's one of the most respected names in the business. We've been lucky enough to witness his sets in London on numerous occasions over the past few years and everyone has been exceptional.
As with PVH, Milton Bradley is another name that needs no introduction to our blog readers. The man behind one of our favourite imprints, Do Not Resist The Beat!, as well as The End Of All Existence and his new venture with Henning Baer, K209. Milton's droning, experimental sound manipulation and attention to detail have made him stand out as a real talent.
Completing the line up is another Modern Love artist. MLZ. This talented producer has been building his name around the scene releasing some serious dub techno on Modern Love and remixing for Time To Express, Perc Trax, Mikrowave and a few more. We expect more big things to come.
Doors open at Horst Krzbrg tomorrow night at 23:30pm and entrance will set you back 10 euros. There's no tickets (there never is in Berlin) so pay when you get there. You can check out the Facebook Event Page for more info. Also while you at it check out the artists Fan pages

Milton Bradley - Do Not Resist The Beat! 07
I always get very excited when I hear news of a new Do Not Resist The Beat! because it means Milton Bradley has been up to his old tricks again. Fresh for the start of his new project with Henning Baer, K209, and his remixes on Cio D'Or's 'Magnetfluss' for Prologue, Milton thought it was about time to return to the series that first caught our attention and where we love his work the most.DNRTB! 07 follows the same pattern as the previous 6 releases. 3 tracks of droning, experimental techno, heavily laden with delays, reverbs and distortion, make this release an essential item for any discerning techno bag. Check out the samples below.
The release will be in the shops at some point in the near future. More info can be found on Milton Bradley through his Facebook Fan Page.
If you want to catch Milton performing live and you happen to be in Berlin on the 23rd December, then get yourself down to Tresor as he'll be performing for Tuna Park alongside another big SDD favourite, Dasha Rush, and his fellow Grounded Theory stable mate, Sawlin. Mikkel Metal - All Over / Ball Under EP [Echocord Colour]
Mikkel Metal returns to Echocord's sister label, Echocord Colour, for his second release on the sublabel. He's been with the label since day one and all it's 10 years since. Many of his releases, on both labels, would feature in many a list of scene defining dub techno music. The Marcel Dettmann remix of his 'Kenton EP' is still one of our favourite Echocord tracks to date.Metal is in his usual fine form with this two tracker. 'All Over' oozes dubby grooves where as 'Ball Under' sees Mikkel harp back to raw warehouse sounds to light up any peak time dance floor. Check out the samples below
It's available to buy now at the usual spots including Phonica, Decks.de and Juno.co.uk and plenty more besides. All the latest info on Mikkel Metal can be found on his Facebook Fan Page and the same applies for Echocord with their Facebook Page. Or failing that there's always the Echocord Website

Cio D'or - Magnetfluss Remixes [Prologue 023]

The EP begins with Silent Servants remix of 'Wasserkraft'. The ghostly aura breathes repeatedly in and out over the top solid 4/4 for an emotional journey. For 'Magnetkreis', new to Prologue, Shifted breaks up the kicks and provides an atmospheric soundscape. Finally Milton Bradley takes on 'Magnetfluss' and transforms it into a dark, droning piece, full of depth and anticipation. It's tough to pick a favourite, but all 3 will find their place in any set.
Listen to the samples from the player below.
The EP will be out in the shops at the end of October. We highly recommend you get yourselves a copy. No doubt this wont be about for long. Info on Prologue can be found via their Facebook and Twitter pages. Cio D'Or can be found on Facebook, as can Milton Bradley. Shifted is on both Facebook and Twitter but as is the Sandwell District way, Silent Servant can't be found on any social networking sites!

Mix Of The Day: Milton Bradley - Trip Mix (Sep 11)
Here at Slash Dot Dash, we always get excited when we see something new from our past guest, Milton Bradley. He first caught our eye through the releases on his own label, Do Not Resist The Beat! Since then he's released on labels like Prologue and Zooloft, remixed for Perc Trax, appeared on the CLR Podcast, debuted his live set at Berghain and setup another label with Grounded Theory boss, Henning Baer, called K209.With all that going on, you'd be surprised that the Berliner managed to find time to put a mix together, but he's taken a few hours out to press record and give us some more beats for your iPod. Check out the mix from the soundcloud player below....

More info on Milton Bradley can be found on his Facebook page. If you want to catch him play live in the next couple of months there's a couple of parties that we highly recommend. Readers of the blog will know all about the Grounded Theory parties in Berlin. The next one, GT11 will be held on the 30th September, this time at Horst Krzbrg, and Milton will perform alongside Tadeo, Forward Strategy Group and Jonas Kopp. Full details on Resident Advisor.
Or if you happen to be in Greece on the 22nd October then get yourself down to 6 D.O.G.S. as Hospital team up with Grounded Theory to bring you a monster line up including Sandwell District, Slash Dot Dash Podcaster Sawf, Henning Baer and of course Milton Bradley. Again, full details can be found on Resident Advisor.

Jonsson / Alter - Mod Album Preview [Kontra Musik 022]
We've featured a few releases on Kontra Musik and every time we hear something new, we get more and more impressed with this great label from Sweden. Focusing on Swedish producers to create music with personality, not just built for DJs and clubs, but music you can listen to at home.As Jonsson / Alter, Henrik Jonsson and Joel Alter, blend together ambient, dub, atmospherics and plenty of soul to give 'Mod' an earthly touch. The album intro 'Dikt' almost mentally transports you to a Swedish mountain top surrounded by snow and endless evergreens. The album steadily picks up the pace with 'Acapellen' and 'Djup House' providing throw backs to early house sounds but in their own way. 'Dvärg' pulsates it's way into your brain whilst 'Kyrka 2.0' holds together the most solid of sub bass grooves. 'Hela Berget' is all about the club with heavy influences from US Techno with Jonsson / Alter's tell tale organ chords layered in and out of the mix. Finally 'Tre Ackord' closes out the album with dreamy chords patterns with solid 4/4 kicks underneath them to create and altogether relaxing, yet uplifting, last dance.
Check out the album preview from the soundcloud player below
The album will be out in the shops and available digitally early next month. More info can be found on the Kontra Musik Website. Or for social networks you can like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter
