Mix Of The Day: Emika - Candelight 020 (16th Aug 11)

Today we feature a mix from our friends over at the Candlelight Sessions. The London based blog has been building up a great list of some of dance music's most respected artists including DJ Rolando, Hans Bouffhmyre, Monoloc and more.

For their 20th episode they've roped in the services of a very talented lady, Emika. Born in the UK, to Czech heritage. Trained in classical piano and composition as a youngster, she was an integral part in the rise of the Bristol dubstep scene. Now based in Berlin, her excellent ear for sound landed her a job with Native Instruments as a sound designer.

Her most notable work to date was the spearhead for Berghain's Fünf compilation. Emika compiled a series of field recordings from the Berlin club and turned them into a 4gb soundbank which became part / all of the tracks on the album, including one of her own.

As a producer Emika has released on UK imprint Ninja Tune and Berghain's label, Ostgut Ton, we expect plenty more great things to come...

Tracklisting

1) Nina Kraviz - I'm Weak
2) Emika - Professional Loving (DJ Rashad & DJ BMT Remix)
3) Photek - Sleepwalking (Faulty DL Remix)
4) Zomby - Mush
5) Emika - Pretend
6) K209 - Diffusion

Weekend Picks - EarToGround label launch, Warm and Life Is Two

There's a couple of notable events coming up this weekend. Two in London and one on the sunny south coast in Brighton. Up first is the EarToGround label launch party at Corsica Studios. They've enlisted the services of the excellent Inigo Kennedy and Shifted who will be supported by a host of residents and guests all in the name of celebrating their first release. Tickets are available through Resident Advisor

Still in London, but this our second pick is something a little bit different. Warm are throwing an intimate party at Plastic People, the last before they close for a month to refurbish the venue, and they've pulled out all the stops.

As one half of legendary dub techno label, Rhythm & Sound, one half of Basic Channel, the founder of Berlin's most famous record store, Hardwax, Mark Ernestus certainly has some credentials that are worth sitting up and paying attention two. Mark will be joined for Paul St Hillier aka Tikiman who will be providing guest vocals throughout the night. There's also an unnamed special guest who I expect will be quite special indeed. Tickets are still available from Resident Advisor

Finally, it's the 2nd Birthday of Brighton venue, Life. They're throwing two days of parties, starting tonight, with great lines ups across both nights, although it's Saturday that really grabs us. A 12 hour party, 3 hours from Marcel Dettmann, 2 from Appleblim and plenty more besides. And of course, tickets can be found on Resident Advisor

Top 3 Royal Wedding Weekend Picks

Easter is generally a very busy time of year for clubbing, but combine that with a Royal Wedding and a bit of Mayday action, and you've got yourself a hell of a extended weekend! As everyone is picking up the pieces of the 4 days just gone, it's time to look well and truly forward to what's about to come.

Our top pick of the weekends events is another techno riot in fabric's Room 2. Whether or not it was intentional or not, but Room 2 is becoming a bit of a mecca for the worlds best techno. Appearances from Sandwell District, Ben Klock, DVS1, Scuba, Len Faki, Skudge have only gone on to strengthen that belief. This Saturday sees this dedication to techno continue. Kicking off proceedings is one of the UK techno's brightest young stars, Sigha. Followed by the Hardwax / Berghain invasion with Shed (Live) and Marcel Dettmann.

Our 2nd pick sees a return to Corsica Studios for one of our favourite labels, Perc Trax, teaming up with our good friends from Colony. A mixture of techno and dubstep can be found across the two rooms and a selection of some of todays finest DJs and live acts.

Last but not least, we have a bit of a monster from arguably the biggest techno label in the world right now, CLR. Chris Liebing and his team have put together a veritable who's who of techno legends for this one. MOS has plenty of history and it has plenty of soundsystem power for the guys to push to it's full maximum.

If you thought that was enough events for 1 weekend, normally you'd probably be right. But this is a monster 4 day weekend remember, so there's plenty of other stuff going on throughout the break, here's the best of the rest

This weekends pick for London - Colony Vs. Perc Trax @ Corsica Studios

This Friday our good friends over at Colony have got together with our good friends over at Perc Trax to put on a night at one of our favourite London venues, Corsica Studios. Colony have been on a little break (since July) but have really come back with a bang.

Perc Trax has been ever strengthening its reputation for solid techno release after release for a while now and they feel it's time to enter back into the world of promoting. Headlining the event is one of our favourite DJs / Producers around at the moment, Peter Van Hoesen. And that stamp of quality filters it's way right through the line up.

Advanced tickets are still available on Resident Advisor or you can pay a bit more on the door

You can join Colony's Facebook Group or follow Perc Trax on Twitter to keep up to date with all their future news

Mount Kimbie - 10 days off - day 6 - 2010 07 22 by 10 days off

You'd have to of been living under a rock for the last 6 months if you've not heard of Mount Kimbie. The UK's latest rising stars within the ambient dubstep, IDM scene. Signed to Scuba's massively influential label, HotFlush recordings. The pair of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos have just released their debut album on the label, entitled 'Crooks & Lovers' which is in the stores now.

This rapid rise to the forefront has seem them make appearances throughout Europe and their scheduled to play at events like Big Chill Festival, Field Day, Bestival and the Warehouse Project up in Manchester. This live mix is taken from the 10 Days Off festival in Vooruit, Belgium. Which as the name suggests goes on for a whole 10 days!

Moderat - The Unofficial Remix Pack

Here's a new release from the brilliant Moderat (Modeselektor + Apparat). They've already had the official release of this but now it's time for the unofficial remix pack to hit our eardrums. Remixes of 'Rusty Nails' come from Shackleton and T++ while Headhunter serves up a version of 'A New Error'.

The Shackleton remix is an absolutely epic. Dark yet uplifting, earthy and euphoric. It completely blows the whole release away. The Headhunter and T++ tracks would be headliner status on any release had it not been from the Bristolians monumental efforts.

Listen to samples of the tracks here
