Truss - Ganymede [Perc Trax 055]

It's time for a new release from our favourite London based label, Perc Trax, by one of our previous Slash Dot Dash guests, Truss. It's first appearance on the label from the Welsh born, London based producer since his 2010 'Osbasten' EP. Inbetween he's had great success, most notably, with his EP on Sigha's Our Circula Sound label as well as remixes for Perc (with Sigha) and the debut release for our friends over at EarToGround.

'Ganymede' displays just how far Truss has come since his last Perc Trax EP. Using his extensive knowledge of the history of techno to combine that with modern methods and idealism's to create something fresh and original. The title track is a minimalist bass heavy thumper which encompasses Truss signature acid stylings. His second offering 'Hackney' is an uncompromising throw back to the illegal East London raves. Stripped down to it's bare bones, it's acid rhythms provide an accurate representation of the state of UK techno.

Remixes come from label boss, Perc, and rising techno star, with labels like Horizontal Ground and Semantica, Skirt. On 'Ganymede' Perc adds layers of organic percussion where as skirt takes us on a more deeper atmospheric trip. Check out the samples below

Weekend Clubbing Roundup: London, Berlin, Manchester, New York & Copenhagen

For those of you in London last weekend, you still might be trying to come to terms with what happened. Those of you, like us, who made it to the Blueprint Records party or the CLR party (or even the CLR afterparty) will know just how vibrant the techno scene here is becoming. Which is why we kick off our roundup in our capital city....

Finally, after a few months of planning, the weekend of our first monthly Sunday party @ Basing House is here. We'll be showing London that just because the weekend's almost over, we don't want any let up when it comes to the ferocity of our music. London's techno clubbers have had a serious lack of options when it comes to heading out on the supposed 'day of rest'.

Headed up by Grounded Theory boss and K209 artist, Henning Baer. He'll be joined by London's own Truss (Perc Trax / Stroboscopic Artefacts), XI and EarToGround resident and Candelight bloggist, Billy Allen.

With all the techno action going on around London last weekend, fabric decided to give Room 2 a week off from the relentless Saturday night techno that it's seen so far this year. So this weekend it's back to normal service with two UK acts at very different stages of their career, Surgeon and Shifted.

Next up we head over to Berlin, and more importantly, tonight at Suicide Circus as they present Echocord Records headman, Kenneth Christiansen and Vault Series artist, Morbeck.

Back to England now and we make our way up North to Manchester for the Eastern Bloc Records Frozen Border / Horizontal Ground label showcase at The Soup Kitchen Basement. DJ Skirt, AnD and Szare join local artist, Setaoc Mass, for a night with two of our favourite labels.

Events in New York seem to be popping up on our radar more and more and our next pick is a very special one indeed. Hotflush Recordings boss, Scuba, takes his Sub:stance party on the road with help from Luke Slater, under his L.B. Dub Corp alias, Boddika and more.

The final stop on our whistle stop tour of the weekends clubbing is Culture Box in the Danish capital city Copenhagen. As ever, it's a hugely promising line up including Echocord artists, Deadbeat and Resoe, and Chilean DJ / Producer, Dandy Jack.

The Clairvoyants show airs on Rinse FM every Saturday night (Sunday morning) at 1am and broadcasts some serious techno across the London airwaves. Last Sunday was the turn of Truss. The London based DJ / Producer is definitely on the up. With releases on labels such as Perc Trax and Stroboscopic Artefacts is just the beginning. We expect you to be hearing a lot more about this man in the not too distant future.

Slash Dot Dash catches up with Truss

Ahead of his first appearance Slash Dot Dash next month, we caught up with Truss to give you a bit of a insight behind his influences, his work and what's coming up in the future....

1) How has the start of 2012 been for you?

It's been a good start to the year. January is always a nice time to get on with writing music as there are fewer distractions than usual.

Other than getting on with new music, I've just played my first gig of the year which was a wicked little party in Madrid with Sigha and Svreca as part of a Our Circula Sound label showcase.

2) What got you into dance music?

Flyers, tape packs and a general fascination with rave culture. I was too young to go to any parties when i first got into dance music, so my friends and I would make do with devouring any, and all, mix tapes we could get our hands on and try to outdo each other by having the most flyers on our bedroom walls.

3) What, of your work so far, are you most proud of?

That would have to be my first vinyl. Greg (Donor) and I had been working on some music together with the aim of targeting a couple of specific labels. Luckily we had those tracks signed to the first label we sent them to - Dumb Unit. Having my music on wax had been a long time ambition and it was a wicked feeling to accomplish that.

4) Do you have a different approach when working for different labels?

These days I try not to think too much about specific labels when I write. I generally feel the stuff I am happiest with is the music I write for fun and nothing else.

5) What's coming up for you in 2012?

I have some solo material lined up including a couple of remixes from some producers I admire a lot. There is more Donor/Truss music ready to be released and I have a new project which will be making its first airing in a few months. I'm going to keep quiet about this project for now though.

6) and finally, we're really excited that you'll be making your first appearance for us next month, have you got anything special lined up for us?

I'm lucky to have an ever increasing amount of new unreleased material from some very talented friends of mine. Looking forward to trying some of these tracks out.

Our Circula Sound Showcase - Post Club @ Siroco (3rd Feb 12)

Tomorrow night Sigha's Our Circula Sound label will host their first label party at Siroco Club in Madrid. Launched in 2010 and now three releases in, with originals from Sigha and Shifted and remixes by two of Techno's biggest names in Marcel Dettmann and James Ruskin. 2012 is set to be a big year for OCS and that year starts here.

Headlined by Sigha himself, and who better to give a complete representation of what the label is about? He'll be supported by one of our next guests Truss, Semantica Records boss, Svreca and XPB1 in the club with Masajazz and Dubnio in the lounge.

Slash Dot Dash pres. Henning Baer & Truss @ Basing House (11th March 12)

Slash Dot Dash return to bring in a new era of Sunday clubbing in London. For too long the only options available to the Sunday clubber has been house, house, house (with a bit of this new wave disco thrown in the pot too). But finally proper underground Techno has found it's way on to the Sunday scene and it's not a moment too soon!

This Saturday is a very exciting moment for me, for a couple of reasons. Firstly I get to be part of the Void Perc Trax Special, which on any other day would be more than enough, but it's Perc's return to our favourite Victorian toilet, Public Life, for his first time in over 2 years, which is really wetting my whistle. Fans of Lost Souls will remember the amazing days we had down there, with the big man, and will understand why I'm so excited that he's back.

Void is a London promotion that is focusing on London's very best techno. It's part of the new collection of promotions that are helping to rebuild the City's flagging techno scene. All the acts are based in the Capital and represent the outstanding music, DJs and Producers that London has to offer.

The headliner, Perc, needs no introduction. Head of one of the worlds best Techno labels, Perc Trax, he's released on a whole host of labels including CLR, Ovum, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Drumcode and a few more besides. Fresh from the release of his long awaited debut album, 'Wicker & Steel', he's in fine form, and back in the bog, we know it's going to be off the hook.

Joining Perc is one of his labels hottest prospects, Truss. On his own, or with his production partner, Donor, Truss has been gathering fans at every turn. Be it as a producer (releasing on Perc Trax, Stroboscopic Artefacts and more), as a DJ or as a live act. Check out the Donor / Truss - CLR Podcast 130 that went out last month, to see just what he's about.

The rest of the line up includes a selection of some of London's best up and coming techno talents. Acts from Affin Records, Ultraplay and Kai Zen alongside the Void residents and of course myself!

Out on Beatport last Friday and on vinyl very soon, is the new Perc Trax release by our favourite Finlander, Samuli Kemppi. 2 Tracks from the man himself and a remixes by Donor & Truss and Dead Sound & Videohead make for an all round extremely solid release.
