Mix Of The Day: Sigha & Shifted - Our Eternal Destination
Sigha and Shifted are two of UK Techno's biggest success stories over the last few years. Rising to international acclaim with a string of forward thinking releases and stella DJ sets. Sigha got his break through Scuba's Hotflush label, whilst Shifted made his name on another of the UK's best labels, Mote Evolver. 2012 saw both of them release their debuts albums, 'Living With Ghosts' for Sigha and 'Crossed Paths' for Shifted, which featured in the plenty of 'best albums of 2012' lists around the techno world.
It was always going to be a matter of time before the pair launched their own labels to give a true platform of their sound. Sigha's came in 2010 as Our Circula Sound launched with Marcel Dettmann remixed Sigha's 'Early Morning Lights'. The very next year Shifted's (and Ventress's) Avian imprint hit the stores with the aptly titled 'AVN #001'. The ever growing closeness of these two collectives and the intertwining of artists on both labels has lead to a number of Avian vs OCS label nights, firstly in Paris and secondly at Berlin's legendary Berghain. The next outing is back in the place where it all began, London, at fabric this Saturday.
To celebrate the occasion, the duo have put together a taster of what to expect from Saturday's b2b performance with a mix for the fabric blog. It may be just under 40 mins long but it's packed full of the distinctive and originals sounds that have made Sigha, Shifted and their labels so respected amongst their fans and peers. Throbbing basslines, metallic industrial tendencies and swirling organic atmospherics are all present in this absorbing recording, which you can download it or stream the mix from the soundcloud player below. And while you're listening, head over to the fabric blog for the interview.
As we mentioned earlier you can catch the Avian vs OCS showcase in Room 2 at fabric as they take care of Room 2 duties for Craig Richards' 'The Nothing Special'. As well as the b2b special set from the duo, Silent Servant and MPIA3 both feature with Terry Francis on his usual warm up business. Tickets are available from the fabric website and you can find all the rest of the info here

Halloween Weekend Clubbing Roundup: London, Berlin, Roma, Antwerp, Barcelona, Copenhagen, New York, Taipei & Sydney
It's a big weekend of clubbing as the freaks come out to celebrate halloween in true techno style. So instead of waffling, we'll get straight to the events. There's plenty to get through so we'll keep most of them short and sweet.
Saturday at fabric Room 2 hosts the official launch party of their latest cd, fabric 66 mixed by Ben Klock. The Berghain resident is joined by a couple of names that you'll see in the compilation CDs tracklisting in the shape of Truncate and Wincent Kunth.
You can read all about the CD and order your own copy from the fabric website where you can also purchase your Tickets. As part of the package you can get a discount when you order your CD and ticket together.
It's tonight, and already started, but we couldn't do this post without giving it a mention. We're gutted we're not there, but if you're looking for something to do in Berlin tonight, this has to be your only destination.
Tresor, Sonic Groove Records and Fullpanda Records combine in Tresor's Globus room to bring you Timewise. Featuring live sets from Biosphere and Robert Henke and topping it off with an ambient DJ set from Adam X and Dasha Rush.
Once the show has finished the fun's not over, as Adam and Dasha take you down to Tresor's legendary basement for what's bound to be an epic after party. Full event info can be found on the Facebook Event Page
We stay at Tresor from Friday night's shenanigans as Tuna Park puts on an altogether international affair of great interest to us here at SDD. Two SDD Podcasters in Singapore's Xhin and Argentina's Pfirter and past SDD guest, Germany's Milton Bradley.
Full event info on Resident Advisor

The good times keep coming at Berghain (not that we expect anything less). Berghain sees a collection of some of todays most innovative artists supplying the soundtrack to your Saturday night / Sunday morning. This line up really lept of the page at us, so much so that we almost booked up some flights.
We recently brought you LADA's video interpretation of their 'Lostbanhof' release, now here comes the live show. Luke Slater and Shifted join them with the show is completed with the usual spattering of Berghain residents, this weekend in the form of DJ Pete and Fiedel.

Most weeks when putting these roundups together, we look to the Danish capital for the next edition of the Culture Box legacy and we're rarely let down. Prologue Records' Abdulla Rashim headlines, with support from a Korridor artist showcase.Check Resident Advisor for the rest of the info
London
After recent hectic weeks rammed full of world class techno, London's has quietened down for the weekend, but you can always rely on their being something special on the horizon. This weekend's party is care of Thunder and features one of our favourite producers, Sven Weisemann.Advanced tickets have sold out but there will be tickets available on the door, however they are limited as the venue is on the intimate side. But that should make for a great night. Full info on Resident Advisor

C-Beams feat. Tina (Uncanny Valley)

Autolum (Chemnitz)
We finish back in Germany with another of our favourite producers. Moritz Von Oswald, of Basic Channel / Rhythm & Sound fame (along with Mark Ernestus), has pretty much influenced the majority of techno you hear today. It would be a very different place had that infamous mastering studio not been set up in the heart of Berlin.
He'll be bringing his dub techno sound to the city of Leipzig as part of the Echolot Electronic Series
There's no tickets so turn up and pay on the door. Full info on Resident Advisor

Weekend Clubbing Roundup: London, Berlin, Manchester, New York & Copenhagen
For those of you in London last weekend, you still might be trying to come to terms with what happened. Those of you, like us, who made it to the Blueprint Records party or the CLR party (or even the CLR afterparty) will know just how vibrant the techno scene here is becoming. Which is why we kick off our roundup in our capital city....
Finally, after a few months of planning, the weekend of our first monthly Sunday party @ Basing House is here. We'll be showing London that just because the weekend's almost over, we don't want any let up when it comes to the ferocity of our music. London's techno clubbers have had a serious lack of options when it comes to heading out on the supposed 'day of rest'.Headed up by Grounded Theory boss and K209 artist, Henning Baer. He'll be joined by London's own Truss (Perc Trax / Stroboscopic Artefacts), XI and EarToGround resident and Candelight bloggist, Billy Allen.
Tickets are still available on Resident Advisor, and you can find all the info you'll need there too.
With all the techno action going on around London last weekend, fabric decided to give Room 2 a week off from the relentless Saturday night techno that it's seen so far this year. So this weekend it's back to normal service with two UK acts at very different stages of their career, Surgeon and Shifted.

Parallel Series 2: Shifted & Samuli Kemppi [Mote Evolver 028]
Mote Evolver drops its first release of 2012 with the second edition of it's Parallel Series. Parallel Series 1 combined Luke Slater's L.B. Dub Corp alias with ASC to create an EP with contrasting, but complimenting, sounds within. The same rules apply of number 2. The artists in question this time are UK rising star, Shifted and former Slash Dot Dash guest and all round nice guy, Samuli Kemppi. Both display a level of skill and creativity in their work which only goes to show why these two individuals are so respected around the techno community.
Shifted kicks off the release with 'Gates' with it's thundering kick and piercing hats is sure to be a dancefloor destroyer. 'Spire' steps up the intensity, filled with industrial overtones and ghostly wafts of white noise. The flip side hands over to Samuli. 'Trans Neptunian' is driving and tough yet warming and somewhat jacking, whilst 'Detached Object' rounds off the EP with subtle progressions of sparse melodies and sub heavy frequencies as the momentum builds for those epic late night moments. Check out the samples below
The EP is due for release next Monday (20th Feb) and will be found in all the usual places. More info on everyone involved can be found on the relevant Social Media sites

Weekend Clubbing Roundup - Dystopian, Redshape @ Basing House and Wax Treatment

This week we've already brought you news of the Prologue Label Night @ Suicide Circus and James Ruskin & Pattern Repeat @ Culture Box so now we'll finish off the round up with 3 more excellent events.First up tonight it's one of our favourite Berlin promotions, Dystopian with their event tonight at Arena Club, headlined by our previous SDD guest, Redshape. Their last event featured UK producer, Sigha, and they're continuing to give the UK techno scene some more love this time with Shifted. Fachwerk Records artist Roman Lindau and Dystopian resident, Rødhåd complete the line up. Doors open at midnight. Full info can be found on Resident Advisor Event Page

Finally, to finish off the Berlin weekend in style, on Sunday it's DJ Pete's Wax Treatment @ Horst Krzbrg. More UK love is flowing from Berlin as UK dubstep artists, Appleblim, Shackleton and Ben UFO join Shed and of course, DJ Pete.

Next up we return to London and believe it or not, Redshape appears again. It's going to be a busy weekend for the masked wonder as he headlines Bread & Butter's next event at Basing House. He'll be joined on the night by a selection of B&B residents and special guests. Tickets are still available on Resident Advisor otherwise it'll be more on the door.

Shifted - Telic, Solus, Image/Channel [OCS003]

It's been 6 months since the last release on Our Circula Sound from label owner, Sigha. James Ruskin's remix of 'Politics Of Dying' has probably been one of my favourite tracks of the year. Great memories of Marcel Dettmann dropping it at Cable on Saturday.
For OSC003 Sigha has passed the controls over to Shifted. No stranger to OCS fans of course. He did a fine job remixing 'Over The Edge' on OSC002, an atmospheric , dubby groover. 'Telic' however is a whole different kettle of fish. Faster and more in your face, techno of the highest order but still remaining dark and trippy. 'Solus' almost takes your breath away with it's depth as it builds up the anticipation with euphoric undertones. 'Image/Channel' drones away relentlessly to round off the release making for a great package of 3 very different pieces. Check out the snippets below
The release will be out in November so keep your eye out for it. If you want to see Shifted live in the next few months he'll be performing at our two favourite venues, Berghain on the 29th October and fabric on the 19th November. For more info on these and others including events in Finland and Switzerland head over to his Resident Advisor DJ Page. For everything else you can 'like' him on Facebook or follow him on Twitter. The same goes for Our Circula Sound too (Facebook / Twitter)

Cio D'or - Magnetfluss Remixes [Prologue 023]

The EP begins with Silent Servants remix of 'Wasserkraft'. The ghostly aura breathes repeatedly in and out over the top solid 4/4 for an emotional journey. For 'Magnetkreis', new to Prologue, Shifted breaks up the kicks and provides an atmospheric soundscape. Finally Milton Bradley takes on 'Magnetfluss' and transforms it into a dark, droning piece, full of depth and anticipation. It's tough to pick a favourite, but all 3 will find their place in any set.
Listen to the samples from the player below.
The EP will be out in the shops at the end of October. We highly recommend you get yourselves a copy. No doubt this wont be about for long. Info on Prologue can be found via their Facebook and Twitter pages. Cio D'Or can be found on Facebook, as can Milton Bradley. Shifted is on both Facebook and Twitter but as is the Sandwell District way, Silent Servant can't be found on any social networking sites!

Weekend Picks - EarToGround label launch, Warm and Life Is Two
There's a couple of notable events coming up this weekend. Two in London and one on the sunny south coast in Brighton. Up first is the EarToGround label launch party at Corsica Studios. They've enlisted the services of the excellent Inigo Kennedy and Shifted who will be supported by a host of residents and guests all in the name of celebrating their first release. Tickets are available through Resident Advisor
Still in London, but this our second pick is something a little bit different. Warm are throwing an intimate party at Plastic People, the last before they close for a month to refurbish the venue, and they've pulled out all the stops.
As one half of legendary dub techno label, Rhythm & Sound, one half of Basic Channel, the founder of Berlin's most famous record store, Hardwax, Mark Ernestus certainly has some credentials that are worth sitting up and paying attention two. Mark will be joined for Paul St Hillier aka Tikiman who will be providing guest vocals throughout the night. There's also an unnamed special guest who I expect will be quite special indeed. Tickets are still available from Resident Advisor
Finally, it's the 2nd Birthday of Brighton venue, Life. They're throwing two days of parties, starting tonight, with great lines ups across both nights, although it's Saturday that really grabs us. A 12 hour party, 3 hours from Marcel Dettmann, 2 from Appleblim and plenty more besides. And of course, tickets can be found on Resident Advisor

Shifted - Control EP [Mote Evolver 024]
Sticking with the UK tip we have the next release from Luke Slater's Mote Evolver label and the second release from the talented anonymous Shifted. We was lucky enough to catch his set at the EarToGround party last month and we left highly impressed. The Control EP is a 4 tracker of solid techno as we've come to expect from both the artist and the label. The release will be in the shops next Monday (13th June) but we're pretty sure it won't be about for long. Check out the Shifted and Mote Evolver Facebook Fan Pages for more info

EarToGround pres Mike Dehnert & Shifted @ East Village (20th May 11)
Our pick of this weeks London events is a pretty easy one. Our friends at EarToGround have lined up another Friday night basement session at East Village. You'll remember the last one they put on, just before Xmas, when James Ruskin tore the place apart in the way he knows best.Tonight's event has an equally impressive line up. Fachwerk Records boss, Mike Dehnert, is flying at the moment. His label is gathering more and more fans with every release, his album has just dropped on Delsin Records to critical acclaim and to top it all off he's getting booked all over Europe at great venues like Tresor, Culture Box, Trouw and the legendary Berghain. It's been years since we saw him play in the Lost Souls room at Rabid festival and we're highly excited to see what he comes up with this time.
The next guest is shrouded in mystery. Shifted has very much appeared from nowhere and with no visible trail behind them. Releases on Mote Evolver, their own Avian label, Syndrome Z and a remix of Furesshu of Project Squared Records has captured the eye of the techno community. We're expecting big things from them tonight!
ETG frontman, Gareth Wild, will lead the support line and he's joined by Anderson and Kieran James to kick the night off in style. Tickets are still available for tonight's event through Resident Advisor, otherwise you can pay on the door but it will be slightly more.
Friday, 25 March 2011
We Fear Silence pres. Blueprint Records @ Cable (26th Mar 11)
If you're out and about in London on Saturday there's only 1 place for you to make plans for. The flyer pretty much tells you all you need to know. Some serious big techno heavyweights. For those of you who don't know too much about O/V/R, it's a live project from Ruskin and Sandwell Districts, Regis. Recently they performed live at Berghain and it went down an absolute stormer. Rumours have it that the whole Blueprint Klubnacht went on till 11pm Sunday! The room 2 line up is also a strong one. Really excited to see how the ambient set from Sigha and Shifted goes down. I'm expecting it to be special.
Anyway there's still tickets available on Resident Advisor for a more than reasonable £10 (+bf) or you can pay on the door but it will cost you a few more quid.

Sigha - Politics Of Dying [OCS002]
Things are going from strength to strength for London born Sigha. We caught his set at Plex a few weeks ago and he absolutely destroyed the main room in Corsica Studios. Recently he's appeared on Echocord Records remixing for Resoe, and after the huge success of his first release on his own label, Our Circula Sound (with a Marcel Dettmann remix no less), it's time for the second release.'Politics Of Dying' is a droning trippy piece of techno with fluttering percussion and heavy sub bass. 'Over The Edge' (Shifted Remix) goes back to Sigha's earlier work with it's earthy tones and dubby feel, but still with a strong pounding kick to rattle any sound system. James Ruskins' remix of 'Politics Of Dying' is packed full of energy and euphoria as the subtle synth drifts along in the background. Check out the samples below
More info can be found on the Our Circula Sound website or you can follow them on Twitter. Sigha can also be found on Twitter so you have no excuse to miss out on anything!
