fabric On with Ricardo Villalobos & Sandwell District (30th July 11)

We're getting excited about tomorrow as not only is it a fabric On party but our boys, Sandwell District, are coming to town. It's always big when Regis and Function stop in and it's made even bigger by them being backed up by one of London's brightest new stars, Sigha. It hasn't been long since the London last performed in the epic Room 2. Back in May he set the tones for Shed and Marcel Dettmann with an exquisite warm up set.

Room 1 isn't looking bad either. Headlined by the king of fabric, Ricardo Villalobos, who will be doing one of his monumental morning sets, no doubt he'll be joined by Craig Richards at some point. A live set from Perlon's San Proper would also be well worth experiencing.

As is always the case with fabric's 15 hour On parties there's guaranteed to be many special moments. Too much to all take in. Tickets are still available on the fabric site and there's some special deals in there for discount fabric cds, and it's not even xmas yet!

If you're looking for something to get yourself warmed up before heading down to the former meat store, then we highly recommend Void @ Public Life. Headlined by up and coming UK producer, Roberto and familiar face to SDD fans, Chris Stanford. Head over to the event page for more details

Jacek Sienkiewicz - Bunker Podcast 67

This set was recorded live at Unsound Festival New York at The Bunker in Brooklyn on February 5, 2010. When it was time for them to pick Polish artists to participate in The Unsound events at The Bunker, Jacek was the first name that came to mind. He totally delivered with a nice primetime mind-bending set

Tracklisting for Michael Mayer 'Immer 3'

Michael Mayer has been a big favourite of mine ever since his fabric 13 compilation. (We're now on the verge of receiving 52 next month yet 13 is still in my top 3). Immer delves into the darker side of Mayer's musical spectrum. The first mix released nearly 8 years ago is widely regarded as one of the best mix albums ever produced.

This one follows the same rules as the other two, no consideration for what's new and hot. More concerned about the right tracks for the right times, regardless of how old they are. Close Musik 'Departures' from 2002 and Raudive 'Slave' from 2006 are the main candidates.

Tracklist
01. Courtney Tidwell - Don't Let the Stars Keep Us Tangled Up (Ewan Pearson's Ambient Mix)
02. Closer Musik - Departures
03. Ben Watt - Guinea Pig (DJ Koze Remix)
04. Tim Paris - Edges of Corrosion
05. Smith N Hack - Falling Stars
06. Raudive - Slave
07. Massive Attack - Paradise Circus (Gui Boratto Remix)
08. Popnoname - Hello Gorgeous (Terranova Remix)
09. Charlotte Gainsbourg - The Operation (Superpitcher Remix)
10. Culoe de Song - The Bright Forest
11. Kinky Justice - New Day

'Immer 3' will be released on 14th June. Check out the Kompakt Website for more info on the label and their forthcoming releases

Cassy - Higher Frequency Mix Show (3rd Jul 09)

Here's a recent live mix from one of my favourite djs / producers at the moment, Cassy. I saw her twice last month (Secretsundaze @ Village Underground, London & Cocoon 2 @ Kanna Beach Club, Barcelona) and her deep chugging Berghain techno sound really did the job.

This was recorded for the Higher Frequency Mix Show last weekend (3rd July) Download the sets from the following links

Green & Blue 2009 @ Im Birkengrund (6th Sep 09)

Just found this little gem of an event. It's been all quiet on the Green & Blue front for months but the details have been announced and here they are

Full Line Up

Lawrence - Resident Advisor Podcast 161 (29th June 09)

Hamburg's king of vinyl houses it up in a deliciously deep style on this week's RA podcast.

Despite his inauspicious beginnings as a gardener, Peter Kersten has spent the last decade becoming one of the main players on Hamburg's music scene. In that time he's notched up 12-inches for some of the world's most popular electronic labels—Kompakt, Mule Electronic, Ghostly International, Ladomat 2000, Sender, Spectral Sound and Smallville just to name a few. From wistfully romantic electronica to bumping deep house, Kersten's musical gamut runs far and wide throughout the sphere of electronic music, but his sound is a distinctive and recognisable one. Taking the ingredients of classic Chicago and Detroit productions, softening the edges and applying his trademark melodic sheen, Kersten's finished products often get you grooving whilst tugging those heartstrings.

It isn't just his productions that have elevated him to the status he currently enjoys, though. Kersten is one-third of the team that has helped to launch the careers of Efdemin, Pantha Du Prince and John Roberts via the Dial imprint, which managed to grab RA's label of the year accolade back in 2007 after a run of essential releases. For Kersten, selling vinyl is a serious business, and he's just helped to start Laid, Dial's vinyl-only sub-label, with a 12-inch from US deep house legend Rick Wade. Hamburg residents can even find him behind the counter at the city's Smallville record store, which he co-owns with Smallville Records owner Julius Steinhoff. Vinyl is also Peter's medium of choice when it comes to DJing, and for this week's RA podcast he's taken to his Technics to supply us with a selection of deep and grooving house cuts with a big Detroit influence. We caught up with Kersten by e-mail to ask him about the mix, the Dial residency at Panorama Bar and his Smallville record store.
