Slash Dot Dash Podcast 035: Fluxion

Fluxion (Kostas Soublis) is a Greek producer that has been active for more than 10 years, with 6 full length albums and 12 EP / LP releases on Chain Reaction, Vibrant Music, Resopal and Echocord. His releases have been remixed by Deadbeat, Thomas Fehlmann, Rod Modell, Morphosis and Convextion amongst others. Fluxion's music includes different genres of electronic music, ambient, dub, experimental, techno, with sound design. His music has a characteristic of slowly evolving parts and contemplating elements which form lengthy musical pieces. His sounds are heavily processed to a point where the origin of a sound has little to do with the end result.

Epic in scope with a bit of the clicks & cuts approach synonymous with artists such as Vladislav Delay, much of Fluxion's best Chain Reaction work was compiled on teo Vibrant Forms albums. He went silent for a few years but resurfaced with a somewhat bolder approach on the 2009-2013 releases through Resopal and Echocord. At the end of 2013 Type reissued Fluxion's "Vibrant Forms" with 10 tracls that had been released in 1999 on the legendary Berlin imprint Chain Reaction and 2014 he made his brilliant comeback with releasing a new album (CD + 2LP) called "Broadwalk Tales" on Echocord, featuring the Jamaican vocalist Teddy Selassie.

Naturally, we were delighted to invite Fluxion to join our podcast family, and the mix he has put together perfectly illustrates why he's been one of the top artists in his field for a decade. Oozing lush textures, evolving atmospheres and blissful dub overtones, this mix is one to immerse yourself within it's warming glow.

Jonsson / Alter - Mod Album Preview [Kontra Musik 022]

We've featured a few releases on Kontra Musik and every time we hear something new, we get more and more impressed with this great label from Sweden. Focusing on Swedish producers to create music with personality, not just built for DJs and clubs, but music you can listen to at home.

As Jonsson / Alter, Henrik Jonsson and Joel Alter, blend together ambient, dub, atmospherics and plenty of soul to give 'Mod' an earthly touch. The album intro 'Dikt' almost mentally transports you to a Swedish mountain top surrounded by snow and endless evergreens. The album steadily picks up the pace with 'Acapellen' and 'Djup House' providing throw backs to early house sounds but in their own way. 'Dvärg' pulsates it's way into your brain whilst 'Kyrka 2.0' holds together the most solid of sub bass grooves. 'Hela Berget' is all about the club with heavy influences from US Techno with Jonsson / Alter's tell tale organ chords layered in and out of the mix. Finally 'Tre Ackord' closes out the album with dreamy chords patterns with solid 4/4 kicks underneath them to create and altogether relaxing, yet uplifting, last dance.

An excellent new addition to the Resident Advisor Podcast series this week from Cio D'Or. After spending a long time at the forefront of electronic dance music Cio Dorbandt finds herself as one of the scenes' most knowledgeable and talented djs / producers around. A firm favourite of ours at Slash Dot Dash, Cio had recent releases on Prologue, Kamarouge and Peter Van Hoesens' Time To Express label.

Brian Eno to release new material on Warp Records

An official message on Brian Eno's Website, has confirmed that the legendary ambient producer is set to release new material on the equally legendary Warp Records.

This is all the information available at the moment. But this is something I'll be watching intently and will keep the blog updated as soon as new info is announced. Eno has been an inspiration for millions of artists across the globe since his first works went on sale in 1973. I inherited an original copy of his 'Ambient 1, Music for Airports' LP from my Uncle which is older than I am. This is still one of my favourite pieces of vinyl and inspired one of my favourite works of the year, The Black Dogs 'Music For Real Airports'.

This also spells a return to Eno's earlier more experimental works after years spent acting as a producer for bands like U2 and Coldplay. I, for one, am very excited to hear the results.

Mix Of The Day: Mount Kimbie (Live) @ 10 Days Off, Day 6 (22nd Jul 10)

You'd have to of been living under a rock for the last 6 months if you've not heard of Mount Kimbie. The UK's latest rising stars within the ambient dubstep, IDM scene. Signed to Scuba's massively influential label, HotFlush recordings. The pair of Dominic Maker and Kai Campos have just released their debut album on the label, entitled 'Crooks & Lovers' which is in the stores now.

This rapid rise to the forefront has seem them make appearances throughout Europe and their scheduled to play at events like Big Chill Festival, Field Day, Bestival and the Warehouse Project up in Manchester. This live mix is taken from the 10 Days Off festival in Vooruit, Belgium. Which as the name suggests goes on for a whole 10 days!

The mix comprises a fine selection of forward thinking rhythms, exploring spaces within sounds to create an emotional response with the music. Perfect late night listening, or early morning listening as I'm doing right now

The Black Dog 'Music For Real Airports' Video Teaser

Brian Eno's original work, 'Music For Airports', for me was a triumph of music, but the British act weren't convinced that the 1978 release told the whole story.

The new album consists of over 200 hours of field recordings to create a piece of music that fully represented the feel of a modern airport today

The album will be released in May 2010
