Weekend Picks: Berlin - Grounded Theory 11, Time To Express, Klubnacht @ Berghain

If you happen to be in Berlin this weekend, you're really in for a treat. On any normal given weekend, chances are you'll be spoilt for choice, but this weekend things really are getting ridiculous. Tonight there's two options which either way will both be worth a look. Firstly it's the next edition from our friends at Grounded Theory who will be taking over Horst Krzbrg with Tadeo, a live set from the Forward Strategy Group, Jonas Kopp and GT resident Milton Bradley. The party kicks off at midnight, full event details can be found on Resident Advisor.

Unfortunately things are never quite straight forward and we're throwing up a bit of a Friday night dilemma for you, because also tonight is the Time To Express label night at Panoramabar. Starting the night with a 4 hour set is a Slash Dot Dash favourite and former guest, Samuli Kemppi. Following him will be a live set from Pendle Coven and further DJ sets from Peter Van Hoesen and Donato Dozzy. Again get the rest of the info and set times on Resident Advisor.

19:00 - 20:00 Henrik Schwarz (Live)
20:00 - 23:59 Prins Thomas
23:59 - end Dixon, Marcus Worgull & Ame

For our final recommendation, we stay at the Berlin techno mecca that is Berghain for the clubs in house Saturday night Klubnacht. The line ups at Klubnacht are always a little bit special but tomorrow night (and Sunday and maybe Monday?) is pretty much phenomenal. Making his debut at the Berlin techno Mecca is one of London's brightest stars, Sigha. As if playing 7 hours wasn't enough for Ben Klock, he'll carry on with a b2b with DVS1, who last at Berghain played for a massive 11 hours, so god knows what time that'll finish. TR-101 is a live project from DJ Pete and Sleeparchive.

With Innervisions bringing the house up in Panoramabar and a Sonntags session of pure class with Ostgut artist nd_baumecker and the man from Robert Johnson Prins Thomas and finishing off with a b2b2b Innervisions style, its set to be an incredible weekend in the former power station. Check out the rest of the event info on Resident Advisor.

Cio D'or - Magnetfluss Remixes [Prologue 023]

A month ago we brought you news of the release of Cio D'or's Magnetfluss EP on Prologue Records, so now it's time to bring you the news of the follow up remix pack involving three of the hottest properties in techno today. Hailing from The US, UK and Germany respectively, Silent Servant, Shifted and Milton Bradley have been behind some of the best music to be released in the last 12 months. Silent Servant and Milton Bradley are no strangers to Prologue. Silent Servant remixed Claudio PRC's 'Clear Depths' EP, and Milton Bradley put out his own 'The Unheard Voice From Outer Space' EP as well as remixing Cio D'Or's last Prologue release 'Die Faser'.

The EP begins with Silent Servants remix of 'Wasserkraft'. The ghostly aura breathes repeatedly in and out over the top solid 4/4 for an emotional journey. For 'Magnetkreis', new to Prologue, Shifted breaks up the kicks and provides an atmospheric soundscape. Finally Milton Bradley takes on 'Magnetfluss' and transforms it into a dark, droning piece, full of depth and anticipation. It's tough to pick a favourite, but all 3 will find their place in any set.

Listen to the samples from the player below.

The EP will be out in the shops at the end of October. We highly recommend you get yourselves a copy. No doubt this wont be about for long. Info on Prologue can be found via their Facebook and Twitter pages. Cio D'Or can be found on Facebook, as can Milton Bradley. Shifted is on both Facebook and Twitter but as is the Sandwell District way, Silent Servant can't be found on any social networking sites!

Mix Of The Day: Smoke Machine Podcast 026 - Cassegrain

After a chance meeting at the Red Bull Music Academy in Barcelona, Cassegrain was formed. With the idea in mind of fusing raw, industrial techno with UK influences to create their signature sound. Their first release on Mikrowave last year saw them team up with UK Dubstep artist, Benga, who's own vocals featured on the release.

It didn't take long for Cassegrain to start getting noticed and they soon found themselves on one of the best labels of the last 12 months, Prologue. We featured their Dropa EP back in July.

The Smoke Machine Podcast series got in touch with the pair to ask them to provide a mix for them, and they duly accepted and below are the results.

K209 - 2

K209 release their second EP and this time it's the debut solo effort from Grounded Theory boss Henning Baer. It's a 4 tracker comprising of three original pieces and Henning's own rework of new Grounded Theory signing, Sawf's 'Ninio'.

The EP kicks off with 'Cold Sun'. An eerie opener, that sets the tone for what's to come. 'Fierce Hundred' is the lead track. Full of industrial stabs and distorted rhythms, it's a serious room shaker. 'In Transit' is a slightly lighter, groovier track. The Sawf remix is slower and much more of a head trip.

Check out the samples below

K209 - 2 is out now in all good record shops. More information on Henning Baer can be found on his Facebook Fan Page and you can also Like K209's Facebook Page too.

If you want to see Henning live then you can catch him on October 22nd in Greece at the Hospital pres. Grounded Theory party alongside Sandwell District, Milton Bradley and Sawf. Full details on Resident Advisor.

Mix Of The Day: Milton Bradley - Trip Mix (Sep 11)

Here at Slash Dot Dash, we always get excited when we see something new from our past guest, Milton Bradley. He first caught our eye through the releases on his own label, Do Not Resist The Beat! Since then he's released on labels like Prologue and Zooloft, remixed for Perc Trax, appeared on the CLR Podcast, debuted his live set at Berghain and setup another label with Grounded Theory boss, Henning Baer, called K209.

With all that going on, you'd be surprised that the Berliner managed to find time to put a mix together, but he's taken a few hours out to press record and give us some more beats for your iPod. Check out the mix from the soundcloud player below....

Again, full details can be found on Resident Advisor.

Parallel Series 1: ASC & L.B. Dub Corp [Mote Evolver 026]

The Parallel Series is a new exciting concept from Mote Evolver. Taking two different artists and combining two tracks from each to create a contrasting, yet complimenting, release. For the first EP Luke Slater rolls out his L.B. Dub Corp alias and lays it down nicely next to UK producer ASC.

ASC takes control of the A side with 'Slow Burn' and 'Transit'. Taking his influences from dubstep and using that to make droning, trippy techno full of heavy bass and mind bending percussion. The B side sees 'Lurcher's Dub' and 'Native Dub' from L.B. Dub Corp. Fans from techno and house will find something to love inside these hypnotic jams.

The Parallel Series 1 will be out in the shops around the end of the month. More info on Mote Evolver can be found on their Facebook Fan Page (there's a cracking video of the Planetary Assault Systems remix of Marcel Fengler's 'Thwack') or you can follow them on Twitter. Same goes for ASC (Facebook, Twitter) and of course Luke Slater (Twitter)

Void pres Perc & Truss @ Public Life (10th Sep 11)

Void @ Public Life - Saturday 10th Sep 11 (1pm - 1am)

Perc (Perc Trax / CLR / Kompakt)
Maker & Meyer (Ultraplay / Mighty Rumble Recs)
Chris Page (Affin Recs / Kai Zen)
Randolph (Void)
Jay Clarke (The Basement)
David Chung (Void)
Adam Gill (East Project)

This Saturday is a very exciting moment for me, for a couple of reasons. Firstly I get to be part of the Void Perc Trax Special, which on any other day would be more than enough, but it's Perc's return to our favourite Victorian toilet, Public Life, for his first time in over 2 years, which is really wetting my whistle. Fans of Lost Souls will remember the amazing days we had down there, with the big man, and will understand why I'm so excited that he's back.

Void is a London promotion that is focusing on London's very best techno. It's part of the new collection of promotions that are helping to rebuild the City's flagging techno scene. All the acts are based in the Capital and represent the outstanding music, DJs and Producers that London has to offer.

The headliner, Perc, needs no introduction. Head of one of the worlds best Techno labels, Perc Trax, he's released on a whole host of labels including CLR, Ovum, Stroboscopic Artefacts, Drumcode and a few more besides. Fresh from the release of his long awaited debut album, 'Wicker & Steel', he's in fine form, and back in the bog, we know it's going to be off the hook.

Joining Perc is one of his labels hottest prospects, Truss. On his own, or with his production partner, Donor, Truss has been gathering fans at every turn. Be it as a producer (releasing on Perc Trax, Stroboscopic Artefacts and more), as a DJ or as a live act. Check out the Donor / Truss - CLR Podcast 130 that went out last month, to see just what he's about.

The rest of the line up includes a selection of some of London's best up and coming techno talents. Acts from Affin Records, Ultraplay and Kai Zen alongside the Void residents and of course myself!

For the full details of the party check out the event pages on either Facebook or Resident Advisor. We can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday! Summer's gone and it's time to head back into the basement!

Jonsson / Alter - Mod Album Preview [Kontra Musik 022]

We've featured a few releases on Kontra Musik and every time we hear something new, we get more and more impressed with this great label from Sweden. Focusing on Swedish producers to create music with personality, not just built for DJs and clubs, but music you can listen to at home.

As Jonsson / Alter, Henrik Jonsson and Joel Alter, blend together ambient, dub, atmospherics and plenty of soul to give 'Mod' an earthly touch. The album intro 'Dikt' almost mentally transports you to a Swedish mountain top surrounded by snow and endless evergreens. The album steadily picks up the pace with 'Acapellen' and 'Djup House' providing throw backs to early house sounds but in their own way. 'Dvärg' pulsates it's way into your brain whilst 'Kyrka 2.0' holds together the most solid of sub bass grooves. 'Hela Berget' is all about the club with heavy influences from US Techno with Jonsson / Alter's tell tale organ chords layered in and out of the mix. Finally 'Tre Ackord' closes out the album with dreamy chords patterns with solid 4/4 kicks underneath them to create and altogether relaxing, yet uplifting, last dance.

Check out the album preview from the soundcloud player below

The album will be out in the shops and available digitally early next month. More info can be found on the Kontra Musik Website. Or for social networks you can like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter
